The story so far

History of Vamp

Vamp began long before its first release. It started as Poekoe, paused for nearly a decade, and returned with a new name and a renewed purpose.

Where it started

Poekoe begins

Vamp originated as an idea in 2013 between a software engineer (Christian Witchger) and a UI/UX designer (Andrés). The original project was called Poekoe.

Development continued, and in 2014 Poekoe was shown at UNC Chapel Hill's Maze Day as a student project for the visually impaired.

On the shelf

Paused

Poekoe development continued for a few months and then stopped. The project was then set on the shelf and almost left to rest.

New name, same vision

Poekoe returns as Vamp

In 2026, development started again under the name Vamp. The project continued to grow from the original Poekoe idea into a new generation of the app.
